CES 2023 | LG C3, G3 and Z3 OLED Smart TVs presented with upgraded UIs and up to 70% brighter displays
LG has introduced a trio of new Smart TVs equipped with OLED panels. Currently, LG has announced the C3, G3 and the Z3, with entry-level A3 and B3 series models still unreleased for the time being. It is also worth noting that while LG has presented the C3, G3 and Z3 today, it will not exhibit any OLED Smart TVs at CES 2023 until January 5.
At the heart of the C3, G3 and the Z3 lies the α9 Gen6, a 4K AI processor that should provide superior image and sound quality thanks to 'deep learning technology'. Supposedly, this should apply to dynamic tone mapping and content upscaling. LG claims that the α9 Gen6 creates virtual 9.1.2 surround sound via the trio's built-in speakers. The C3, G3 and Z3 can also output to built-in speakers and compatible soundbars simultaneously thanks to a technology that LG describes as 'WOW Orchestra'.
Additionally, webOS has received a major update, with a refined UI and an improved home screen, among other changes. LG adds that the trio will launch with AMD FreeSync, NVIDIA G-SYNC and HDMI 2.1a, which offers Source-Based Tone Mapping (SBTM) and Quick Media Switching VRR (QMS-VRR) over HDMI 2.1. Reportedly, the latter technology prevents the C3, G3 and Z3 from going black when changing their frame rates. The G3 should deliver up to 70% higher peak brightness than its predecessor too, but many specifications remain unknown for the time being, as well as pricing and availability.
