CES 2023 | Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 gaming monitor refreshed with 57-inch, 8K, Mini LED and 240 Hz panel
Samsung has refreshed the Odyssey Neo G9, nearly two months after AMD teased the gaming monitor during its Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX launch event. As AMD implied in November, the new Odyssey Neo G9 supports DisplayPort 2.1 and operates natively at 8K in a 32:9 aspect ratio. However, Samsung has made more changes that upgrading the monitor's native resolution and DisplayPort coverage.
According to the company's press release, the Odyssey Neo G9 has grown from 49 to 57-inches, across which it delivers 7,680 x 2,160 pixels with a 140 PPI pixel density. For reference, the new Odyssey Neo G9 offers the same volume of pixels as two 4K monitors sat next to each other. It is worth noting that only AMD Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs support DisplayPort 2.1; competing NVIDIA GPUs like the GeForce RTX 4090 remain stuck on DisplayPort 1.4a. Hence, 8K and 240 Hz gaming will be an AMD exclusive for the time being.
Additionally, the new Odyssey Neo G9 utilises quantum Mini LED backlights across its 1000R curved panel for up to 1000 nits of peak brightness. Samsung adds that the monitor is also VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified, details of which VESA provides on its website. While Samsung has not yet confirmed how much the new Odyssey Neo G9 costs, the price of the current model or the 55-inch Odyssey Ark point to it being incredibly expensive. Initially, Samsung charged US$2,299.99 for the current Odyssey Neo G9, although that has now dropped to US$1,799.99. Meanwhile, the Odyssey Ark started at US$3,499.99 but is now US$2,999.99. In other words, this year's Odyssey Neo G9 could cost anywhere from US$2,000 to over US$3,000.
