Displace has now provided more information about the Displace TV, an OLED Smart TV that debuted just under a month ago. As expected, the company has used CES 2023 to showcase Displace TV, which will be available in a sole 55-inch screen size with a 4K native resolution. However, multiple units can connect together, with 4 serving as a 110-inch composite running at 8K, or an ambitious 16 units spanning 220-inches diagonally while outputting at an effective 16K. There is no way to pre-order 16 units though, with Displace offering its eponymous TV in 1, 2 and 4 packs at US$2,999, US$5,399 and US$8,999, respectively.
As Displace teased last month, the Displace TV contains more tricks than the ability to span multiple units simultaneously. Supposedly, a vacuum pump allows each unit to affix to a flat surface without a dedicated wall bracket. Displace has not provided details about the vacuum pump yet, although it needs to provide enough suction to hold a 55-inch and 9 kg unit in place. Additionally, the Displace TV runs on four hot-swappable batteries, which the company claims provide up to 180 hours of battery life. As such, Displace markets the Displace TV as being fully wireless with no wires or ports protruding from its rear. It is worth noting that Displace TV connects to a base station, effectively making it a wirelessly connected external monitor rather than a conventional Smart TV.
Moreover, the Displace TV lacks a dedicated remote control. Instead, the TV relies on gesture controls, which it captures with a pop-up webcam. Reputedly, the TV supports touch inputs and voice controls, but it appears that Displace did not demonstrate either at CES 2023. Displace hopes to begin shipping the Displace TV in December 2023 and is taking 10% reservation fees to secure pre-orders. Seemingly, Displace already has fewer than 100 units available to pre-order. With such limited quantities available, it remains to be seen whether Displace will actually ship to consumers on time or even with minor delays.
