MSI has presented the MAG321QR-QD, a 32-inch and 1440p gaming monitor that also has a 170 Hz refresh rate. Offered with a USB hub, the MAG321QR-QD supports MSI's new console mode and is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified.

MSI has announced the MAG321QR-QD, a new model in the company's QD monitor series. Billed as 'the new combat power of 1440p gaming', the MAG321QR-QD has a 31.5-inch IPS panel, which MSI rounds to 32-inches. According to MSI, the flat panel operates at 2,560 x 1,440 pixels (WQHD) with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 170 Hz refresh rate. It is worth keeping that the latter is only possible by overclocking the monitor. Presumably, the MAG321QR-QD operates at 165 Hz by default.

Additionally, a 170 Hz refresh rate is only possible with the monitor connected via DisplayPort. For reference, MSI equips the MAG321QR-QD with a DisplayPort 1.2a connection and a USB TYpe-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Unfortunately, the monitor's HDMI 2.0b ports limit gaming over HDMI to 144 Hz at 1440p. The full list of I/O is as follows:

  • 1x DisplayPort 1.2a
  • 2x HDMI 2.0b
  • 1x USB 2.0 Type-C (DP alt mode with PD 15W: 5V/3A)
  • 1x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 1x USB 2.0 Type-B

The MAG321QR-QD is also VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified, meaning that it offers up to 400 nits of peak HDR brightness or 350 nits when viewing SDR content. Moreover, the monitor has a 1,200:1 contrast ratio with 1 ms response times (MPRT) and 97% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. The MAG321QR-QD supports NVIDIA G-SYNC too for minimising image tearing while gaming, as well as an adjustable stand and VESA mounts. Unfortunately, MSI has not revealed pricing or availability yet.
