Kaby Lake Upgrade. A powerful processor, IPS display and quick SSD: these are the fundamental building blocks for a good office computer, and the Inspiron provides them all. A backlit keyboard and a good battery life build on that foundation, and the built-in touchscreen can be operated with a stylus. The whole package costs just under 800 Euros (~$850).

The Inspiron 15 5578 is a good all-rounder with a few drawbacks that need to be considered. Build quality, however, isn’t one of them. The device surprises with firm and robust construction and excellent input devices. The keyboard is comfortable while the trackpad is precise and big enough to replace your external mouse. However, we have some concerns about the ergonomy and weight. The sharp corners make the device a bit uncomfortable to hold at times while the weight beats the purpose of a 2-in-1 hybrid.

Despite all the good results and scores, the laptop device is still below the score of 30 fps playability threshold. In fact, the Inspiron 15 7000 gained 29 fps noting that the average is 34 fps. When a gamer isn't exploring for long forgotten tombs, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000's integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU takes over for video or any lighter activities.

Even though the price has increased, the only thing that Dell changed here is the CPU. Don’t get us wrong, though, it’s not just another incremental upgrade since the Core i7-8550U delivers an impressive computing power over the last generation but to be honest, we were expecting more changes, at least under the hood.

Dell Inspiron 15 5570-5441
The Dell Inspiron 15 5570-5441 is a budget laptop that packs good performance and sports a clean-looking chassis. Matte plastic is used for the entire lid, giving the laptop a more simplistic look. The Inspiron 15 5570 takes a more conservative approach with clean lines, no decorations or ornaments, and is entirely black or gray, depending on the color of choice, which will probably appeal to a broader audience, including users looking for a business-oriented laptop. Measuring just short of 20 mm (19.9 mm to be exact) and tipping the scale at 2.12 kg, the Inspiron 15 5570 is a fairly portable laptop. Concerning hardware specifications, it features an Intel Core i7-8550U, which is part of the new 8th-Generation Kaby Lake Refresh. It has a standard 2.5-inch HDD/SSD bay and an M.2-SSD slot. The first one is occupied by a Seagate 1TB HDD, while the M.2-SSD slot is empty. The notebook allows up to 32 GB of DDR4-2400 memory using a dual-channel setup of two 16GB DDR4-2400 sticks. The laptop came with just a single Kingston 8GB DDR-2400 RAM chip. As for graphics, it comes with an AMD Radeon 530 made for entry-level notebooks that can be used for general multimedia and light gaming. The Inspiron 5570 comes with a Full-HD (1920×1080) TN panel. With a 15.6-inch diagonal, the display scores 142 ppi and 0.18 x 0.18 mm pixel pitch. The pixel density is 141 per inch, which is considered standard for this category. The display is its weakest point, it does not please the eye, despite its good resolution and matte finish. Users can watch movies, play something undemanding, but when working with text, it will probably strain the eyes. The Dell Inspiron 15 5570 has a fairly handy island type keyboard. It is good for typing texts and even for games. Aside from that, the layout of the keys is quite typical with a separate digital block and two-level illumination. As for the touch panel, it measures 10.5 by 8 cm - as a rule, this is enough for machinations on the screen. The cursor moves smoothly, without breaking or nerve jumps, the surface itself is pleasant to the touch. The sides come with the usual set of connectors typical for the price point. The laptop features USB-C 3.1 (Gen 1), HDMI, RJ-45 for LAN, two USB-3.0 ports and a 3.5-mm audio jack on the left, while the right side comes with an optical drive, USB 2.0 and an SD-card reader. Honestly, we don’t like bashing notebooks for no reason or make a verdict out of a nitpicking but in this case, all of the data we’ve gathered from the review can’t make a compelling reason to buy this machine. We honestly can’t think of anything that’s a solid key selling point except for the CPU itself.

The Dell Inspiron 15 5580 is a good-looking laptop, It's built well and has an interesting configuration for the price. At the same time, it does have some glaring shortcomings such as the disappointing battery life and the stiff trackpad buttons. The RAM configuration feels a bit unbalanced too. There are variants available with 8GB of RAM but those don't come with the Optane Memory or an SSD, which means the Windows experience won't be as snappy.

The Inspiron range has historically been pitched at people who are more bothered about substance than style and at a first glance, that appears to be what you’d get with the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (5580). While it’s not uneasy on the eye, it’s not quite as arresting as other slimmer notebooks and ultrabooks doing the rounds these days. While it’s pretty solid-feeling, not being actually able to do much with it on Dell’s stand obviously limits what I can tell you about how the Inspiron 15 5000 (5580) performs. I like the fact you get a good number of ports here, including an SD card reader and Ethernet and get the impression that this will appeal to those who want a dependable machine that’s flexible in a variety of situations.

Dell Inspiron 15 5501’s display has an IPS panel with a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and good contrast ratio. Sadly, this is where the good stuff ends, and we start listing the downsides. If you happen to play some gays on this laptop, you should know that the pixel response time is very slow. Also, the sRGB color coverage is 50% and the backlight uses aggressive PWM for all brightness levels, except for the maximum. Thankfully, the last issue is fixed by our Health-Guard profile.
