Reviews for the Dell XPS 16 9640

88.6% Dell XPS 16 9640 review - The multimedia laptop with 4K OLED and an annoying touch bar | Notebookcheck
The XPS 16 9640 is Dell's new multimedia flagship, replacing the old XPS 15. Aside from its larger 16-inch display, it also features current Meteor-Lake processors and GeForce graphics cards, but its GPU performance in particular is unfortunately only average.
80% Dell XPS 16 9640 Review: Gorgeous With Great Performance, but Not for Everyone
Source: Make Use Of English
The Dell XPS 16 9640 offers impressive productivity performance–particularly the decently spec’d version that I tested for this review. Thanks to the RTX 4070, it even handles most recent games you can throw at it, as long as you’re willing to tweak the resolution and settings. You can say that about plenty of Windows laptops, but few of them look as sleek and elegant as the XPS 16. That said, that ultra-minimalist appearance comes at a price: While you may get used to them, both the keyboard and touchpad can feel tricky to use at first. If you have the option, you may want to try this model in person if you’re on the fence about buying it.

2024 Dell XPS 16 Review
Source: Mobile Tech Review English
For 2024 the larger XPS laptop model gets a new CPU and a new design. The Dell XPS 16 (9640) shares the same design as the XPS 14 we reviewed, with a borderless trackpad, capacitive Fn row and a new keyboard. It looks stunning and is available with a FHD+ IPS or our 4K+ OLED touch display, Intel Core Ultra processors with AI and up to an NVIDIA RTX 4070.

Review – Dell XPS 16 9640 (2024 model)
Source: NLT English
We’ll have to look at the price first. It’s at a whopping RM12,098.99! It’s expensive! Since the RAM is not upgradable, we’ll have to fork out an extra RM600 for 32GB of RAM. So at the end of the day, I think that the XPS 16 9640 is a weird laptop. Its 16.3-inch OLED 4K screen is gorgeous and it looks absolutely fantastic for whatever I want to do on it – but the specs are very limiting. Even if we did splurge and get the RTX 4070 version, it’s still only at 60W of power. Other gaming laptops run the RTX 4070 at 150W! And since this laptop isn’t going to be a powerhouse, I expect it to be portable – but it’s not really fun to carry either.

100% Dell XPS 16 review: with great power comes grievous portability
Source: T3 English
The XPS 16 is big in almost every way. The screen is big, the processing power is plentiful, and it has options for expansive memory, storage, and gaming performance. That comes in a package that is big, heavy, and expensive. If you need this extensive performance in a package that can be moved when needed, then the XPS 16 is the way to go. Just make sure that both you and your credit card are in good shape first.

97% 2024 Dell XPS laptop review: Pricey, but still the best Windows premium laptops
Source: Techaeris English
Prices vary depending on how you outfit the 2024 Dell XPS lineup. Our units were pretty well-packed with the best of the best. Expect to pay a pretty penny if you choose to outfit these laptops with all the goodies. The prices are really no surprise. These are Dell’s flagship laptops and they are built to reflect that price. These laptops are well worth the price and should last you several years. There are more affordable alternatives, but you will sacrifice a superior fit & finish, build quality, and name recognition, if that’s important to you. The 2024 Dell XPS laptop lineup is still the best premium Windows laptop line you can buy. Their design and build quality are at the top.

80% Dell XPS 16 (2024) review: This Windows laptop gives the MacBook Pro a run for its money
Source: Zdnet.com English
I feel confident in saying the Dell XPS 16 is a contender for my favorite laptop of 2024. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Like I said earlier, it feels like Dell read my review from 2023 and implemented changes solely to make me happy. Dell equipped the old XPS 13 with better hardware and blew up its screen to a full 4K display while sticking with its iconic look.

70% Dell XPS 16 review: a problematic powerhouse
Source: Digital Trends English
I’m a fan of the XPS 16, but I’m also aware of its limitations. The GPU is underpowered. The connectivity is limited. And let’s be honest: the LED function keys make an otherwise good keyboard downright frustrating. However, the laptop performs well enough to meet the needs of its primary target: a creator who wants a reasonably thin and light laptop to carry around. The XPS 16 is attractive and exceedingly well-built, and I found it comfortable to use once I grew accustomed to its idiosyncrasies. But it’s also very expensive. It’s facing some incredibly stiff competition, such as the MSI Prestige 16 and the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Ultra, both of which cost hundreds less. Even the MacBook Pro 16 is only slightly more expensive when we’re talking about spending over $3,000.

70% Dell XPS 16 review: Big, beautiful and frustrating
Source: Tom's Guide English
I like our Dell XPS 16 review unit quite a bit despite its flaws. A lot of that is due to its compelling one-two punch of a beautiful 4K OLED display driven by powerful internals that deliver good to great performance—as long as you're not doing anything too demanding. This isn't a great gaming laptop for playing the latest big-budget games, but if you trick it out with all the upgrades it gets pretty close, and it also delivers better battery life than any gaming laptop on the market. And while the XPS 16 can't match the battery life, video editing chops or processing power of the latest MacBook Pros, it also runs more games better and offers an OLED touchscreen, something no MacBook can match. But I can't say many nice things about the keyboard deck.

82% Dell XPS 16 review: Beauty and power comes at a cost
Source: Engadget English
As you can probably tell from our review unit’s cost, the XPS 16’s price is its biggest potential issue. It starts at $1,899 with the Intel Core Ultra 7, Intel Arc graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 512GB NVMe SSD and a 1080p+ LCD screen. The latest XPS 15 starts at $1,099 with a 13th-gen Intel Core i7 CPU and a similar build. At the very least, it’s nice to see that Dell isn’t shipping workhorse machines with 8GB of RAM by default (like Apple and so many other companies are). Other upgrades for the XPS 16, unfortunately, will cost you dearly: It’s another $400 to get an NVIDIA RTX 4050 GPU ($600 for the 4060 and $1,100 for the 4070), bumping up to OLED costs another $300 and stepping up to 32GB of RAM is an astounding $600 extra.

78% Dell XPS 16 (2024) review: Performance nearly smothered in costly style
Source: PC World English
The Dell XPS 16 has a lot to offer, but it’s a bit of a mixed up machine. It offers excellent CPU performance that can rival most other ultrabooks and it packs in a discrete GPU to boost graphical workloads. However, it comes at a high price for the blend of components and the GPU isn’t even able to reach its full potential in the XPS 16 chassis, which emphasis function over form a bit too much. The hardware may be a marvel to look at, but it’s a little less of a joy to use. The display and speakers come together wonderfully, but this is no media consumption device. Ultimately, there are some premium parts packed into the XPS 16 and then a further premium slapped on top for the elegant design and bill of materials.

80% Dell XPS 16 (2024) review: Best Windows laptop I've tested so far this year
Source: Zdnet.com English
Even though we're still so early in the year, I feel confident in saying the Dell XPS 16 is a contender for my favorite laptop of 2024. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Like I said earlier, it feels like Dell read my review from 2023 and implemented changes solely to make me happy. Dell equipped the old XPS 13 with better hardware and blew up its screen to a full 4K display while sticking with its iconic look. I also enjoyed the wide array of features, specifically the ones that future-proof the laptop such as the Windows Copilot button. They'll make sure the laptop stays relevant for a long time, and that your investment is well worth it.

80% Dell XPS 16 (9640) Review
Source: PC Mag English
Despite a few quibbles, none close to being a deal-breaker, the Dell XPS 16 is an appealing premium package. The screen size, feature set, and components are all great fits for its power-user target buyer, and it will make you look good while being productive. Impressive performance and battery life, plus a better-than-impressive OLED display, don't hurt, either. To be sure, the XPS 16 is on the pricey side as configured—there are more affordable ways to acquire this processor-and-GPU combo, if you can live without the XPS 16's seamlessly sexy keyboard and high-end materials. The MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo is a superior value for users okay with integrated graphics, while the Alienware m16 R2 is a more affordable alternative for after-hours gaming. But while the XPS 16 may miss the price/performance balance that wins Editors' Choice honors, it's the new go-to option for premium desktop-replacement shoppers.

Dell Overhauls Its XPS Laptops and Redesigns the Alienware m16 for CES 2024

The new XPS lineup takes after the previous Plus models, adding 14- and 16-inch sizes, while the m16 shrinks significantly. The new ROG Zephyrus G14 looks like it will continue to be a standout ultraportable gaming machine, while the twin-display Zenbook Duo will raise productivity on the go.

Hands on: Dell XPS 16: a high-end laptop that exudes luxury
Source: Techradar English
I am thoroughly impressed with Dell's latest updates this year. They seem to have successfully tackled many of the issues previously identified in the Dell XPS series. The only outstanding areas for improvement are the touchpad and function taskbar, which lack buttons or ridges to guide the user. Otherwise, the design continues to be stunning and unique, characteristic of the XPS series, featuring an excellent keyboard and an exceptionally vibrant display. The improvements don't stop there; a revamped webcam and a more efficient ventilation system elevate the device, promising to retain its status as one of the top laptops on the market. Enhanced specifications, including a CPU from the new Intel Meteor Lake line, promise remarkable performance, so if the Dell XPS 16 manages to match or surpass our long-time favorite, the Dell XPS 15 (2022), we might be looking at a near-ideal laptop for professionals on the go.

Dell XPS 16 hands-on review: A super-sized XPS 13 Plus
Source: Tom's Guide English
Dell is taking a risk with the new XPS line. As the company’s flagship laptop series, it’s bold to redesign the entire lineup to resemble the controversial Dell XPS 13 Plus. It’s unclear how users will react to this change, but I can at least give the company respect for trying something unexpected. Despite some quibbles with the capacitive touch keys and touchpad, the Dell XPS 16 itself seems like it will be an all-around solid laptop. Its design is striking, and even its starting configuration should provide enough power for work and play. Will it win me over in the end? I’ll see when after I’ve reviewed this laptop. That should be soon, so stay tuned for more! For better or worse, the new Dell XPS 16 is effectively a super-sized XPS 13 Plus. It has the same elegant design and portability, but its lack of a proper function row and its disappearing touchpad could be off-putting. However, its built-in AI features and up to RTX 4070 GPU could make this larger laptop worthwhile.

Dell XPS 13, 14 and 16 hands-on at CES 2024
Source: Engadget English
Dell is bringing the bold design of last year's XPS 13 Plus to the rest of the XPS lineup ahead of CES 2024 in Las Vegas — and now that includes new 14-inch and 16-inch models. The "Plus" name is also gone entirely: the new models are simply called the XPS 13, 14 and 16. They all sport the defining featured of the XPS 13 Plus: A seamless glass wrist rest, which hides an invisible haptic touchpad right in the middle; touch sensitive function buttons above the keyboard; and large key caps for more comfortable typing. And notably, the larger two models fix some of my biggest issues with the XPS 13 Plus.
