SZDiiER has brought various new gaming handheld options to the table lately, including the 3.5-inch D008 and the 5.5-inch D50 Plus. On top of that, it has decided to muscle in on the returning popularity of the 2.8-inch gaming handheld market with the Diium D-28S, as its name implies.
For context, the Anbernic RG28XX, MagicX XU Mini M and Miyoo A30 (curr. $64.99 on Amazon) have all arrived this year sporting 2.8-inch displays. However, they have done so with a horizontal layout, albeit with different features to distinguish themselves from each other. By contrast, the D-28S adopts a more unusual vertical layout, at least for this screen size.
According to SZDiiER's product listing, this compact display outputs at 640 x 480 pixels though, just like the larger D008. Moreover, the D-28S should ship with an RK3326 chipset from Rockchip, which also underpins the Anbernic RG351 series and Powkiddy RGB10Max 2. In other words, its emulation capabilities will probably top out at PlayStation 1 games, as RetroHandhelds notes. For reference, SZDiiER is charging CNY 185 (~$26) for the D-28S in China; it is unclear how much the device will cost elsewhere though at this stage.
