Anbernic has now released the RG406H, the second in the RG406 series after the RG406V that arrived in September (curr. $229.99 on Amazon). Please note that the RG406H and RG406V share many components, just like the RG35XX series. However, Anbernic primarily distinguishes the pair by their designs.
Specifically, Anbernic has switched to a horizontal layout this time around, having offered a vertical alternative with the RG406V. Moreover, this layout change coincides with the return of the shield-style d-pad found on the RG Cube. The RG406V shares the following hardware with the RG406H, though:
- 4-inch IPS display, 960 x 720 pixels, 4:3 aspect ratio
- Unisoc T820 chipset
- 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM
- 128 GB UFS 2.2 flash storage
With that being said, Anbernic includes a 9% smaller battery. Nonetheless, the RG406H's 5,000 mAh battery has been shown in early reviews to last for over 7 hours when emulating even PS2 games. Incidentally, this is slightly longer than Anbernic's official claims.
Currently, the RG406H is available for $157.99 in translucent purple, white and black finishes. In other words, Anbernic's latest gaming handheld is a cheaper option to the Retroid Pocket 5, despite being capable of emulating up to and including sixth-generation video game consoles. Please note that Anbernic will start charging $167.99 for the RG406H from November 22 onwards.
