An influential horror franchise has returned with a new multi-platform release. The Nintendo eShop lists Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival as requiring an excessive amount of storage. While the 41 TB total for the Switch 2 game is likely an error, handheld owners are quickly running out of space.

The Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival Switch 2 version was recently announced with an October 8th release date. Nintendo fans considering the survival horror title balked at one line of the eShop listing. According to the marketplace, the digital download will consume a staggering 41 terabytes (TB) of storage.

41 TB or 41 GB?

Almost certainly a mistake, the typo has sparked several humorous Reddit posts. On Steam, it cites the Saber Interactive project as taking up 80 GB of space on PCs. The most likely requirement for the Nintendo handheld is 41 GB, but it’s amplified a growing concern.

The internal Switch 2 storage offers players 256 GB to work with. Yet newer candidates like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation now demand more than half of that alone. The solution is usually microSD Express cards that slot into the console. Sadly, higher-capacity options are expensive and are under threat during the NAND flash shortage.

While PlayStation is abandoning PS5 discs, Nintendo has no apparent plans to ditch cartridges. The Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival Switch 2 release will also be available in physical form. However, some fans are worried it will ship on a Game-Key Card that forces downloads.

Hellraiser: Revival pre-orders

With pre-orders appearing at various retailers, indications suggest the Switch 2 game uses a standard Game Card. The product pages and box art make no mention of the often-criticized alternative.

Physical game enthusiasts may gravitate toward the Collector’s Edition. The package is full of bonuses, including a Genesis configuration puzzle box replica. That said, it’s not yet clear if there is a SKU for Nintendo buyers. Alternatively, the Deluxe Edition bundles additional in-game digital content.

Revival is the first title based on the horror IP since the ill-fated Hellraiser: Virtual Hell in the mid 1990s. To see whether the latest effort is worth the 41 TB or 41 GB of storage space, a demo is available on Steam. Unfortunately, Saber has not confirmed a console trial ahead of the Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival release date.
