Unveiled earlier this year, the Asus Strix G series utilizes the sleek design of a Zephyrus laptop but in a more affordable plastic chassis instead of the usual aluminum. The end result is a system that looks a lot like a Zephyrus albeit at more affordable price points.
The 15.6-inch Strix G GL531GU is therefore the lesser sibling to the costlier Zephyrus S GX531. Although it is almost all plastic for a less luxurious first impression, it still sports narrow bezels to be significantly lighter and more compact than most other budget gaming laptops including the MSI GL63. What makes this Asus deal particularly noteworthy is that it sports both GTX 1660 Ti graphics and a 120 Hz display which is practically unheard of for a laptop retailing under $1000 USD let alone $900. The GTX 1660 Ti offers excellent 1080p performance at about 65 percent over the popular GTX 1060 when playing DX12 titles.
While we've yet to review the 15.6-inch Strix G GL531 series, expect our review on the 17.3-inch Strix G731 which shares the same overall design as the 15.6-inch version. Expect more laptop deals in the weeks to come as more retailers jump on the Amazon Prime Day train.
