The device known as the Razr+ in the US (or the Razr 40 Ultra elsewhere) can be lauded as having 1 of the best cover displays for clamshell-type foldable smartphones of 2023 - however, the company also went and stuck its non-flagship Razr/Razr 40 counterpart with a last-gen 1.5-inch letter-box by comparison.
That discrepancy has finally been resolved in the first-gen vanilla Razr's 2024 successor, according to the latest leaks. Those reports may have been confirmed outright by the Chinese regulator TENAA, which has just approved a new device called the Motorola XT2453-2 for sale.
It is thought to be the entry-level Razr 50/Razr 2024 as its SoC is now listed as having a clock-speed of just 2.5GHz, despite looking almost exactly like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered Razr+ of yesteryear. TENAA also seems to confirm that its new cover screen is indeed of the potentially superior 3.6 inches in diagonal length.
It encompasses dual 50+13MP rear cameras, which might be an improvement on both the Razr and Razr+, although its punch-hole selfie camera is the same old 32MP shooter. The "Razr 50/2024" also has the same FHD+ 6.9-inch main display as both of its predecessors - although that still means it might be 144Hz LTPO AMOLED.
Then again, if the XT2453-2 really is the next-gen vanilla Razr, its internal storage options have upgraded significantly, as they now include 512GB and 1TB options. It will also support standard RAM increments such as 8GB, 12GB and even 16GB - and also, oddly enough, 10GB.
Therefore, unless TENAA has made an uncharacteristic mistake, it seems the Razr 2024 is about to introduce a whole new RAM SKU to the foldable clamshell market this year.
The device is also shown in a new (although possibly still Pantone-validated) shade of purple, whereas the Razr 2023 is available in colors such as Summer Lilac and Sage Green at its current best price on Amazon.
