Motorola has announced that the Edge 2024 (or Edge Gen 5) has arrived to supplant its 2023 counterpart on the US market. The device has been revealed to run on the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 platform as the Edge 50 Fusion - however, that does not mean the 2 devices are identical.
The Edge 2024 does indeed have a signature Motorola FHD+ 144Hz pOLED display - however, it has a diagonal length of 6.6 inches, as opposed to 6.7 inches in the latest Fusion variant. Nevertheless, the OEM quotes its dimensions at 159.63 x 71.99 x 8.09mm: slightly narrower and yet thicker than either the Edge 2023 or 50 Fusion.
Then again, it has the same rear cameras as the latter, which allows Motorola to stamp the legend "50MP OIS" into its vegan leather back - not to mention the same battery and 68W TurboPower tech, which means its battery is (finally) larger than that of its predecessor.
Nevertheless, that means its wired and wireless charging are stuck at the same 2023 rates. The Edge 2024 will run Android 14 out of the box, at least - and also come in the same single 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage SKU as its forebear, in Eclipse Black and no other colors to boot.
However, while the Edge 2023 launched with a recommended retail price of $599.99 (or the same cost of an 8/512GB Edge+ 2023 on Amazon right now), that of the Edge 2024 has dropped by $50.
Furthermore, we would not be surprised if it comes in with the same introductory discount (to $499.99) when it comes time for Motorola to release this 'new' Edge-series hybrid on June 20, 2024.
