Motorola has introduced a new flagship smartphone, its first since the Moto X40, Edge 40 Pro and Edge Plus (2023). Motorola has priced the Edge 50 Ultra aggressively, with a 144 Hz pOLED display, 125 W charging, a new Qualcomm chipset and an impressive camera set, all for €999.

Motorola has finally refreshed its flagship smartphone series, sixteen months after introducing the Moto X40 in China. For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered handset eventually launched as the Edge Plus (2023) (curr. $699.99 on Amazon) in North America and the Edge 40 Pro elsewhere. As expected, the Edge 50 Ultra contains the following hardware highlights:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset
  • LPDDR5X RAM/UFS 4.0 flash storage
  • 4,500 mAh battery with 125 W wired charging
  • 6.7-inch pOLED display, 2,712 x 1,220 pixels, 144 Hz refresh rate, 2,500 nits peak brightness

Additionally, Motorola has confirmed that the Edge 50 Ultra will be limited to a single 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage configuration. Conversely, the company will sell the device in three finishes that it describes as Forest Grey (vegan leather), Nordic Wood and Peach Fuzz. Moreover, Motorola has equipped the Edge 50 Ultra with four cameras within its 161.09 x 72.38 x 8.59 mm and 197 g housing that is also IP68 certified:

  • Front-facing: 50 MP, f/1.9, 0.64 µm, autofocus
  • Primary: 50 MP, f/1.6, 1.2 µm, 1/1.3-inch optical format, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
  • Periscope: 64 MP, f/2.4, 0.7 µm, 72 mm equivalent focal length, 3x optical zoom, PDAF, OIS
  • Ultra-wide-angle: 50 MP, f/2.0, 0.64 µm, 12 mm equivalent focal length

So far, Motorola has only shared pricing for the Eurozone, where it will start at €999. Unfortunately, the company has not confirmed when the Edge 50 Ultra will actually be available, though. Instead, it has disclosed that the handset 'will be on sale in the coming weeks'. Similarly, Motorola has outlined that the Edge 50 Ultra should reach 'select markets' across Asia, Europe, Latin America and Oceania, adding that it will be 'expanding the Edge family in North America this year'.
