Motorola spotted gearing up to tackle Apple AirTag with own new Moto Tag
Motorola has already produced a smart tag - although it is designed to work with Focus 86-series indoor security cameras over short-range Bluetooth only. However, it may be supplanted by a more versatile, powerful accessory that can work with the Edge 50 Ultra to track a greater range of one's possessions soon.
The accessory has just been registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as the Moto Tag (or T6AB3) with the model number XT2445-1. It has been cleared to use the same ultra-wideband (UWB) technology as the Apple AirTag, in addition to use as a Bluetooth peripheral.
Its FCC filing yields no hint as to the Moto Tag's design; hopefully, it can match another potential rival, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2, in terms of in-built key-chain support.
However, it is known that it runs on the same CR2032 power supply type as the AirTag - although there is a chance that it might be user-replaceable (thanks to the confirmed existence of a battery door) in the upcoming Moto Tag.
Accordingly, it will be interesting to see how Motorola prices this new addition to its smart ecosystem; currently, a single Galaxy SmartTag2 costs nearly $30 on Amazon.
