A new version of the Apple AirTag is on the way. The original model was released in 2021 as a tracking device to help you keep tabs on your belongings. Rumors about a second-generation device started last year, with analyst Kuo indicating that production had been pushed back from late 2024 to 2025. A new report shares more details on the upcoming model with codename B589.
In a recent newsletter, Mark Gurman stated that the Apple AirTag 2 would have upgrades, such as a new and improved chip for more accurate location tracking. Fans are also keen to see increased volume, longer battery life and even a wallet-friendly version, though these features have yet to be confirmed for the new AirTag. However, competitor products like the SEINXON Tracker Card ($42.99) offer both a rechargeable battery and are credit-card shaped.
As a reminder, the currency AirTag is powered by a CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Ultra Wideband (UWB), and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The round device is 8 mm (~0.31 inches) thick and rated as IP67 dust and water-resistant. Regarding a release date, it has been suggested that the new Apple AirTag will launch in mid-2025; the company is said to be currently carrying out tests with manufacturers.
