Moondrop MIAD01 Hi-Fi smartphone packs symmetrical 4.4 mm headphone jack into white housing
Moondrop is best known for headphones, in-ear monitors and completely wireless earphones, but the company is now entering the smartphone business. Its first model is called MIAD01, which, according to the label on the back of the case, stands for "Mobile Internet Audio Device 01".
The device has a white back with a bulge in the upper third, which not only appears to create space for the dual camera, but also for the headphone amplifier, as is the case on the Sony Walkman WM1AM2. The quality of the cameras is obviously not a major priority, as the tiny front lenses indicate small sensors and at least one useless 2 MP camera.

The smartphone has two headphone connections: a 3.5 mm connection, which is compatible with most commercially available headphones on the market, and a higher-quality 4.4 mm connection, which, according to the label on the back, is symmetrical. This allows longer cables to be used without loss of quality and also protects against external noise interference.
As no smartphones with a 4.4 mm connector are currently available, the MIAD01 is likely to be at least partly an in-house development, not just a licensed smartphone with design adaptations. Moondrop is thus expected to also install a high-quality DAC and a powerful amplifier by smartphone standards. It remains unknown when or at what price the Moondrop MIAD01 will be launched or what features the smartphone will have.
