Moondrop's latest earbuds rely on USB-C instead of a 3.5mm or 4.4mm jack. This makes the Rays compatible with modern smartphones that are lacking a headphone jack. It also contributes to a latency of under 5 milliseconds, which is very low in comparison to the 50ms that wireless earbuds typically offer.
Moondrop combines a dynamic driver with a planar magnetic driver in order to reproduce detailed sound in a frequency range between 7Hz and 39kHz. By default, these earbuds are intended to sound relatively neutral, which should make them suitable for both music and gaming.
However, the IEMs' sound can be personalized via an equalizer in the Moondrop app, which also offers optimized equalizer profiles for over 20 games, including Valorant, CS:GO and Apex Legends. Alternatively, users can create their own game-specific profiles and share them with the community.
The built-in DAC can process music up to 32-bit at 384kHz. The included cable has a remote control and microphone for voice chats while gaming. The housing of the earbuds is made of 3D-printed resin, which is supposed to make them particularly skin-friendly and ergonomic. For PC gamers, Moondrop includes a USB-A to USB-C extension cable in the box.
