Audio-focused Moondrop MIAD 01 launches with mid-range specs and an affordable price tag
The Moondrop MIAD 01 has been fully unveiled in China. It's the first phone from the audio-focused brand, and it has a handful of audiophile-targeted features. Among them are the two headphone jacks on the top of the smartphone. One is a 3.5 mm single-ended, while the other is a 4.4 mm balanced jack. The first offers 2Vrms output, and the balanced jack delivers 4Vrms.
Besides that, the audiophile Android phone comes with quad-channel dual Cirrus Logic MasterHiFi DACs. Moondrop hasn't specifically said which model, but it could be the CS43198. Thanks to that, the MIAD 01 can offer a dynamic range of 132 dB and a SINAD of 118 dB. These numbers are often found in high-end portable DACs/amps (FiiO Q3 curr. $85.95 on Amazon).
But the audio-focused features don't end there. The Moondrop MIAD 01 has a dedicated LDO power supply and a six-layer gold-sinking independent circuit. It even offers a significant level of control with hardware-level DAC volume adjustments. The companion Moondrop Audio Center app also comes with DSP functionality. All these make the smartphone a great portable player.
As for the phone part, the first smartphone from Moondrop has MediaTek Dimensity 7050 under the hood, a mid-range eight-core processor. This CPU is paired with 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage and 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. While it appears that the MIAD 01 is only available in one configuration, there's a dedicated microSD card slot. It allows you to expand storage to up to 2 TB, more than enough to hold a large library of FLAC files.
On the back, the MIAD 01 comes with a dual camera setup. The primary sensor is a 64 MP unit, and Moondrop has paired it with an 8 MP ultrawide. Its front has a 6.7-inch OLED screen and a 32 MP selfie shooter. This display has a 1080p resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 1920 Hz PWM dimming.
Software-wise, the Moondrop MIAD 01 runs on stock Android, which promises zero data collection and ads. Other highlights of the phone include a 5000 mAh battery, 33W fast charging support, and a 5 Gbps USB 3.1 port. The smartphone is currently available in China for CNY 2,499 (around $345). Global pricing and availability aren't confirmed yet.
