Google revealed to be planning Pixel Tablet refresh instead of Pixel Tablet 2 release in time for I/O 2024 event
It is already well established that Google is preparing to release the Pixel 8a. Not only have there been various leaks about the mid-range handset in the last few months, culminating in the publication of official promotional images, but third-parties have also started selling the device in some markets. Meanwhile, other leaks have focused on the Pixel 9 series, which is expected to debut this autumn.
Surprisingly, less information is known about a Pixel Tablet (curr. $499 on Amazon) successor. For context, Google introduced the current Pixel Tablet alongside the Pixel 7a last May during its I/0 2023 conference. Nonetheless, the only Pixel Tablet 2-related information appears to be that Google is developing new tablets under 'clementine' and 'kiyomi' codenames.
Allegedly, 'clementine' could be a 5G modem equipped with an Exynos Modem 5400, more details of which we have covered separately. For now, the Exynos Modem 5400 is rumoured to be shipping within the Pixel 9 series through Tensor G4. Given past releases, it seems unlikely that Google would showcase a next-generation chipset via a new tablet. Instead, it would be more probable that anything announced during I/O 2024 would feature the older Tensor G3, such as the Pixel 8a. Likewise, it would be unusual for Google to create a special Tensor G3 variant with an Exynos Modem 5400 for the Pixel Tablet 2.
According to Dealabs and @billbil_kun, it has seen evidence that Google is planning an original Pixel Tablet refresh of sorts that could land in time for I/O 2024. Reportedly, Google plans to offer the Pixel Tablet in new packaging without its charging dock, which it sells in Europe for €149. Dealabs adds that the refreshed Pixel Tablet will be available for €609 with 128 GB of storage in the Eurozone, a €70 drop from its original model with a charging dock included. Although a specific release date remains unknown for now, Dealabs believes that Google intends to offer a 256 GB variant for €729, €50 down on the SKU's previous pricing.
