The Epic Games Store is preparing to update its free game program on PC with a new raft of titles. For context, Cat Quest II (curr. $34 on Amazon) will remain free to add to your Epic Games library until 16:00 UTC, after which it will to $14.99. Meanwhile, Doodle Kingdom: Medieval will be free to grab on until the same time today too, but on Android and iOS.
According to a recent leak, Epic Games intends to replace the latter with a game aimed at fans of The Walking Dead. Although the storefront has not confirmed as much yet, it is apparent that Arcadegeddon, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms and River City Girls will replace Cat Quest II this week.
Of those three, only River City Girls is a paid game. Typically available for $29.99, River City Girls is an anime-inspired beat 'em up with single-player and local co-op modes. For reference, River City Girls averages 79/100 across Metacritic and OpenCritic, with reviewers drawing comparisons with Scott Pilgrim vs The World thanks to its art style and gameplay mechanics.
The game should run on pretty much any laptop or PC with 8 GB of RAM that can run Windows 7 or newer. According to River City Girls' developers, the title will run at recommended settings with a processor like the Intel Core i7-3770 paired with a GPU such as the AMD Radeon HD 7800 or the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950. River City Girls will be available to download and keep indefinitely from 16:00 UTC today until a week later at 15:59 UTC on April 17.
