Asus: Asus Eee PC 1201K now shipping to Italy

The 12-inch, AMD-powered Asus Eee PC 1201K mini-notebook will probably be positioned in the budget segment

With the latest global PC sales report indicating an upwards trend since last year, it seems that PC OEMs intend to update existing models and launch new ones as frequently as possible in order to keep the momentum going. Having said that, Taiwan-based Asus is nowhere on the back-foot as it continues to put out a new model every now and then. And so, here comes yet another addition to the successful Eee PC line-up of Asus- the Eee PC 1201K.

The Asus Eee PC 1201K is visually similar to the Eee PC 1201N and Asus UL20A.What sets them apart is- the Eee PC 1201K is powered by a low-power AMD Geode CPU while the other two models are Intel-based. To be precise, the newbie from Asus is a 1366 x 768 pixel 12.1 inch display mini-laptop which has a 1.4GHz AMD Geode NX1750 processor. Add to that 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive to serve your storage purposes. 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi is a standard connectivity feature and the notebook is backed-up for power by a 4400mAh battery. The mini-notebook will ship with Microsoft Windows XP, which is pretty unusual for notebooks launched in this date, but this gives a fair amount of indication that the notebook is intended for the budget category.

Right now, the latest Asus portable is shipping to Italy for a price of 328.99 Euros, which is fairly cheap for a 12-inch notebook considering Italian standards. No news, however, is available about when this model will be available in the US.
