One of the major franchises that Ubisoft is known for is the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series. The last game in the lineup was Ghost Recon: Breakpoint that came out in 2019 and since then, there has been no official information on the next instalment. A couple of leaks and rumors have popped up however, with the latest claiming that the game is still in development and is making progress.
The game is codenamed Ovr and is said to be moving to internal alpha state later this year. The information comes courtesy of Insider Gaming who claim to have footage for the game. The report describes it as a tactical shooter like Ready or Not or somewhat similar to the Modern Warfare series. As for the release date, sources have stated that it could take about 12 months from internal alpha to final release so we could see the next Ghost Recon game in Fall 2026.
In the past, it has been reported that the game will be a first-person military simulation (mil-sim) revolving around a fictional ‘Naiman war.’ At this point, the setting of the game is very much a mystery, but looking at Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and the games before it, the next instalment will likely have a similar modern setting.
Considering that Ubisoft has already announced delaying its major titles to 2026 and beyond citing the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, next year could be a big one for Ubisoft fans. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is expected sometime before April next year. Even though it is unlikely that Ubisoft will share any information on the next Ghost Recon game over the next 12 months, there are still a few releases as well as DLCs planned including possible the mobile games Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division spin-off Resurgence being announced this year.
