Ubisoft will allow its players to play this Rainbow Six Siege series game for free. However, there are some gameplay restrictions to take into account.

While Ubisoft has recently had to face up to some difficult months, with some of its franchises failing miserably, the French studio is looking to turn a corner. In fact, one of its best games is about to become free-to-play, and could well help Ubisoft turn its business and financial fortunes around.

While Ubisoft has made a habit of offering trials of some of its AAA games, one of them has been a huge success, none other than Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. And after ten years of loyal service, this game is about to become free, at least in part.

Called Rainbow Six Siege X, this opus will be playable for free, but with a few restrictions. The official website states: “Free access provides unrestricted access in Standard, Quick Play and Dual Front modes, along with a selection of 26 operators. Upgrading to a premium offer grants access to more operators and unlocks Ranked mode as players progress to level 50. By purchasing an edition of Rainbow Six Siege before Siege X release, you will maintain access to all modes, including Ranked, and carry over progression”.

However, there is a surprise in store for players. A new game mode called Dual Front will appear: “A unique, permanent 6v6 game mode set on our biggest map yet with all-new gameplay elements, such as in-match events and respawns. Combine attackers and defenders and their abilities in ways never before seen, as you and your team attempt to secure the enemy sectors whilst defending your own”.

What's more, if you've been playing the paid version of this game for a while, Ubisoft has no plans to remove your progress and advancement. You'll even be able to enjoy veteran rewards and badges that will be available the next time you log in.

However, to get full access to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, you'll have to pay if you've never bought it before. Note that the Standard Edition costs $19.99.
