A recent series of images, purported to outline the Xiaomi 12 series rear-panel design via the medium of how its members might look in cases might have struck many viewers as a little off-putting, not in the least of how the Ultra variant's rear camera hump looked. The 12 and 12 Pro looked practically normal by comparison; however, a new tip suggests the older leak was inaccurate in part.
It comes courtesy of GizmoChina, a blog that claims to have acquired more renders of the Xiaomi 12 Pro's case. However, these new images (admittedly a little iffy, not the least due to some strange and irrelevant English-language text visible in one of them) shows a total of 5 different-sized cut-outs within the camera hump, whereas its forebear showed 4 (3 for cameras, a large and prominent primary sensor included, and 1 for a flash), same as the vanilla 12.
According to the latest alleged 12 Pro render (also published by GizmoChina), the 'extra' cut-out might be for something like a LiDAR sensor rather than a camera lens. It has been said that these rumors and others like it might have been solved today (December 12, 2021) with a formal launch for the device in question. However, it now seems we might have longer to wait in order to find out for sure.
