Xiaomi 12 remains on track to launch in December with some upgrades over the MIX 4
Xiaomi remains tipped to launch its next flagship smartphone in a month's time, the Xiaomi 12. While supposedly not due outside China until early 2022, Digital Chat Station has elaborated on what to expect from the Xiaomi 12 relative to the MIX 4, Xiaomi's most-recent flagship.
According to the leaker, the Xiaomi 12 will have a superior display and primary camera, along with Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 898 SoC. Potentially, Qualcomm may reveal the Snapdragon 898 later this month, with the company having already confirmed when it will be hosting its annual Tech Summit.
Based on recent leaks, the Snapdragon 898 is believed to feature an ARM Cortex-X2 CPU core, three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 1.79 GHz, respectively. Additionally, the Snapdragon 898 should integrate an Adreno 730 GPU, an upgrade over the Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon 888.
However, Digital Chat Station believes that the MIX 4 will have the edge over the Xiaomi 12 in some departments. Specifically, the MIX 4 will be the only one of the two with a Camera Under Panel (CUP), implying that the Xiaomi 12 will utilise a punch-hole display instead. Moreover, the MIX 4 will support higher wattage charging than the Xiaomi 12, although this could be the difference between 100 W and 120 W; both should yield exceptionally fast charging times.
Finally, the Xiaomi 12 will not follow the MIX 4 with a ceramic body. Xiaomi executives have publicly complained about the cost of using ceramic in the MIX 4, so it is no surprise that the Xiaomi 12 will not go down this route. Hence, it seems likely that the Xiaomi 12 will have a glass back, mirroring recent Mi flagship smartphones.
