Xiaomi 12 Lite to launch globally and in India with Xiaomi 12 Lite Zoom as a Chinese equivalent
In late October, Xiaomiui revealed that Xiaomi had added the 12 Lite, 12 Lite Zoom and the 12T to MIUI code. Now, the website has found evidence of the 12 Lite and 12 Lite Zoom elsewhere, shown in the screenshots below. Supposedly, the Xiaomi 12 Lite and 12 Lite Zoom will be almost the same device, save for the latter's telephoto camera.
Previously, Xiaomiui stated that the pair would feature 1080p displays with 120 Hz refresh rates, along with SM7325-based SoCs. Qualcomm currently sells two SM7325 parts to OEMs: the Snapdragon 778G (SM7325) and the Snapdragon 778G Plus (SM7325-AE). The Xiaomi 12 Lite and 12 Lite Zoom are expected to rely on the Samsung ISOCELL GW3 as their main cameras too, a 64 MP sensor also used in the Mi 11 Lite series.
However, Xiaomiui asserts that the 12 Lite Zoom will be exclusive to China, with no global launch planned. By contrast, the Xiaomi 12 Lite will be available globally, as is the case with the Mi 11 Lite and the 11 Lite 5G NE. Additionally, Xiaomi will release an Indian variant of the 12 Lite, identified by its model number 2203129I.
While Xiaomiui has discovered multiple references for both models, that does not necessarily mean that either will come to market soon. For context, Xiaomi announced the Mi 11 Lite in March, releasing it a month later.
Last month, it also started selling the 11 Lite 5G NE, so a Xiaomi 12 Lite launch is probably a few months away. In all likelihood, the company will unveil the Xiaomi 12 Lite in late Q1 2022; it is unclear when the 12 Lite Zoom will arrive.
