Xiaomi officially confirms that the Xiaomi 12 series will run Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.
Over the past few release cycles, Xiaomi has usually been the one to debut Qualcomm's new high-end mobile SoCs. It is no different this time around, as Xiaomi has officially confirmed that its upcoming Xiaomi 12 line of flagship smartphones will run the newly-launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, just a few hours after Qualcomm took the wraps off the silicon. Previous reports have told us that the Moto Edge X30 could be next in the pipeline to run the silicon.
Unfortunately, that's all we know about the Xiaomi 12 for now. While an official confirmation is nice, we already knew about the phone's SoC via multiple rumours. We also have a rough idea about its camera layout, which is said to include three sensors, including one 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1/Sony IMX700. Furthermore, we can expect its selfie camera to leverage the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1's always-on functionality to serve as a form of biometric authentication. The SoC's ISP is packed to the brim with several top-notch features, and it'll be interesting to see how many the Xiaomi 12 will feature.
We should know more about the Xiaomi 12 and its siblings, including one pint-sized Xiaomi 12X, at the devices' putative December 16 launch date. Xiaomi could launch some additional accessories alongside the smartphone and even divulge more information about its electric vehicles. However, it could be a few months before the Xiaomi 12 series hits international shores. By then, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1's arch-nemesis, the Dimensity 9000 and Exynos 2200, will already have been unleashed upon the market, and we can't wait to see the three high-end chipsets square off against each other.
