The Samsung Exynos 2200 GPU has allegedly been put through an official benchmark and offered up results that are either amazing or disappointing depending on if your glass is half empty or half full. While the Exynos 2200 GPU seems to offer very respectable gains over the Exynos 2100 GPU, it’s the Apple A15 Bionic and Snapdragon 898 that will be its true competitors.

The apparent results of a Samsung Exynos 2200 GPU official benchmark have been posted by Tron, which should please many who are looking forward to seeing what the Samsung/AMD partnership can produce. The exact details of the actual benchmark were not revealed but handily there was a comparison between the Exynos 2200 GPU and the Exynos 2100 GPU. The peak performance difference is especially promising while the sustained performance improvement is more of a generational expectation.

According to the leaker, the sustained performance difference is +17% to +20%, which is nothing to be sneezed at. While one can expect around +10-15% performance gains between generations of CPU or GPU, depending on the multitude of variables involved, this is certainly a satisfactory result for the Samsung Exynos 2200 GPU over the Exynos 2100 GPU. But it’s in the peak performance where the SoC with AMD’s RDNA 2-powered 6-core GPU really shines over its predecessor by +31% to +34%. Those are big numbers, but of course it’s sustained performance that should matter most for mobile gamers.

Tron continues with the note that the Exynos 2200 GPU offers a "big difference" over the Snapdragon 888 in 3DMark’s Wild Life, as it should considering the age difference. The source also mentions ARMv9, the new architecture that was launched earlier this year, and the leaker reminds followers that results could change especially when dealing with “pre-release hardware and software”. So while the glass half full types will cheer the obvious gains the Exynos 2200 GPU has made over the Exynos 2100 GPU, the glass half empty types may be more concerned about how it will hold up against its real rivals: the Apple A15 Bionic and Qualcomm Snapdragon 898.
