The first weekend of the year brings us a fairly spectacular rumor about the Vivo X300 Ultra, which is expected to be the first Vivo Ultra flagship to launch globally and is anticipated to debut in first quarter, likely in March. According to a Weibo user (see screenshot below), the Vivo X300 Ultra will feature a 200MP 35mm main camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto camera and a large 1/1.28-inch 50MP ultra-wide camera, which is not exactly new intel.
Continuous zoom starting at 35mm
What’s more interesting is a continuous optical zoom range similar to that of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, but apparently implemented on the main camera rather than the telephoto camera. While the Xiaomi 17 Ultra offers variable focal lengths between 75mm and 100mm, the Vivo X300 Ultra could reportedly be able to zoom between 35mm and potentially 85mm, although the leaker does not specify an exact focal length range for this optical zoom. This leak from China was first picked up by a Reddit user and then emerged on X, where speculations about a very large zoom range are already circulating.
Potentially unreliable leak
That being said, there is reason for skepticism. Xiaomi has stated that the zoom range on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is limited because the periscope module with a 1/1.4-inch sensor would otherwise be far too large. If Vivo were to implement this with an even larger 1/1.12-inch Sony LYT-901 200MP sensor, the zoom range would need to be smaller than Xiaomi’s. There are also doubts about the general reliability of this Weibo user. So far, no confirmed accurate information has come from this source, and established leakers such as Digital Chat Station have not mentioned a continuous zoom feature for the Vivo X300 Ultra.
Launch in March, also globally
This leaker also appears to copy additional details about the Vivo X300 Ultra from Digital Chat Station, including a flat 6.82-inch 2K LTPO display with thin bezels and the possible removal of the camera button, which Digital Chat Station had already hinted at last week. A March launch has also been mentioned by other leakers, and a global release now appears to be very likely.
