Vivo has a reason to celebrate. While the Vivo X200 Ultra already secured a spot among the five best smartphone cameras in DxoMark’s ranking, the Vivo X300 Pro has now surpassed this achievement with an even better second place finish. According to reviewers, the Vivo X300 Pro could be an excellent alternative to the iPhone 17 Pro, especially for video enthusiasts.

The camera experts at DxOMark have put in some work at the end of the year 2025 in order to complete the camera review of the Vivo X300 Pro, and the results are quite respectable. For the first time, a Zeiss camera flagship phone has ranked among the top three smartphone cameras by taking second place directly behind the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and beating the Oppo Find X8 Ultra as well as Apple's iPhone 17 Pro. This means the Vivo X300 Pro has also overtaken the Vivo X200 Ultra, although the specific scores reveal some interesting differences between the two Vivo flagships.

For example, the photo score of 171 points compared to 173 for the Vivo X200 Ultra shows that Vivo's current Ultra flagship still maintains the upper hand in that category. However, the video score has improved dramatically, as the Vivo X300 Pro receives 169 points compared to 156 for the Vivo X200 Ultra. In the video discipline, the Vivo X300 Pro even takes second place directly behind the iPhone 17 Pro, so it’s currently the best Android phone for recording video according to DxOMark.

Top scores for bokeh, telephoto, zoom and low-light scenarios

In contrast to the Honor Magic 8 Pro camera test a few days ago, which didn’t result in a new top score in any discipline, the Vivo X300 Pro takes the lead in the photo subcategories telephoto and bokeh as well as in zoom and low light settings. The reviewers praise the consistently accurate exposure and dynamic range, as well as the correct white balance with natural skin tones in photos and videos. The level of detail is high in all situations, especially in zoom shots. The decent video stabilization and natural bokeh in portraits are also highlighted.

However, there are also a few points of criticism that Vivo could still improve on. Specifically, there are contrast issues in HDR pictures with strong backlighting, the comparatively narrow field of view of the ultra-wide camera, and artifacts such as ghosting, color fringing or texture artifacts that can appear in some situations. In addition, low-light photos sometimes render unnatural details, while the color of people with dark skin sometimes appears slightly too bright. The full review can be read here. We have also thoroughly tested the Vivo X300 Pro, and part one of my personal experience with the camera during a trip to Cyprus can be found here.
