So far, leaks related to the Vivo X300 Ultra have largely focused on its three large sensors, its 35mm lens, and a rumoured zoom lens. Whilst lenses and sensors are undoubtedly crucial components of a camera system, there are still other areas where phone makers can push improvements. One example is image colour accuracy, an aspect that can greatly benefit from a multispectral sensor – something Oppo has been emphasising for years.
Although we encountered several issues with the Oppo Find X9 Pro’s multispectral sensor during our brief hands-on with its cameras – particularly when used with the camera kit – this type of sensor theoretically still helps a phone interpret colours in the environment more accurately than conventional image sensors, especially in low-light conditions. In a recent Weibo post, the highly reliable leaker Digital Chat Station claims that the Vivo X300 Ultra will similarly adopt a multispectral sensor – tipped to be the industry’s largest with a 5 MP resolution – potentially offering the best multispectral solution of the year.
In a follow-up comment, the leaker also mentioned a few other strengths of the flagship phone. Its 35mm Zeiss camera with a Sony LYT-901 sensor will reportedly receive a new teleconverter, possibly with a different magnification than the predecessor’s 2.35x. However, Digital Chat Station has yet to share any details about the recently rumoured optical zoom camera.
