This tablet puts its predecessor to shame - this is what an update should look like!

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 shows what a successful tablet update looks like: A stronger display, more power and modern connectivity. The following report explains where it falls short despite its premium claim - for example when it comes to battery and updates.

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is an impressive successor: While the predecessor was at best a mid-range performer, it now has a SoC that works at upper-class level. The screen and features have also been revised.

Design and workmanship

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 impresses with a 13-inch IPS display (3,504 × 2,109 pixels, 120 Hz), which is not only larger, but also brighter and more color-accurate than its predecessor. The slim metal chassis with a thickness of just 6.2 mm and IP52 certification offers a high-quality finish.

Three color variants (light grey, dark grey, light blue) are available, although not all regions receive all colors. With 8 GB RAM and a choice of 128 or 256 GB storage, the tablet is well equipped. A microSD slot also enables memory expansion and is a special feature for such a large tablet.

Performance and connectivity

The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, which ensures a significant increase in performance - especially with demanding applications or games. WiFi 7 enables transfer rates of over 2 GBit/s, making the tablet ideal for fast networks. Unfortunately, there is no cellular variant, but satellite positioning is possible.

The precise touchscreen with 120 Hz and the pen input (Lenovo Tab Pen Plus) make the device perfect for creative tasks. Four speakers deliver full, clear sound, and many audio codecs are supported thanks to Bluetooth 6.0.

Battery life, cameras and price

The 10,200 mAh battery only offers mediocre runtimes, and the update period (up to Android 18) is rather short at four years.

The cameras (13 MP rear, 8 MP front) are only suitable for snapshots.

The tablet heats up noticeably under load and the price (around US$ 600) has risen significantly compared to its predecessor. The 128 GB version also only uses UFS 3.1, while the 256 GB version is faster with UFS 4.0.
