OLED TVs are usually preferred by buyers with unlimited budgets. However, they require light-controlled rooms to fully appreciate their high contrast ratios. The Sony Bravia 7 is a mini LED alternative for when sunlight pours in through living room windows. Also, the manufacturer has no OLED model as large as the 85-inch TV currently on sale at Amazon and Best Buy.
The massive Bravia 7 4K QLED TV is available for $1,998 at Amazon, its lowest sale price to date. If the deal expires, Best Buy has discounted the 4K QLED TV to $1999.99.
Big screen glory for fewer bucks
In the past, a 4K projector would be the only reasonably affordable way to fill walls with crisp images. Mini LED options like the 85-inch TV currently on sale offer the same wow factor. Unlike most projectors, it’s powerful enough to overcome considerable ambient light. That said, glare remains an issue, and narrow viewing angles limit its appeal somewhat in expansive spaces.
Even if this Sony TV can’t replicate the deep blacks of the Bravia 8 II or A95L, dark scenes look more authentic than with inferior LED technologies. The Rtings review of the Bravia 7 notes that blooming is minimal, thanks to effective local dimming.
As with other Bravia candidates, the TV featured in this deal is an ideal companion for the PS5. Auto HDR Tone Mapping takes the hassle out of calibrating the console for a specific title. Still, competitive gamers should note that latency is not as low as most OLED TVs. While a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR are available, players may see minor blurring during fast-moving scenes.
How the Bravia 7 adapts to different content
Like with its PlayStation features, the Bravia 7 ships with a diverse selection of picture modes to reduce setup time. Each preset adapts to gaming, cinematic content, or specific streaming services. SDR and HDR color accuracy is stellar by default, making the mini LED TV less intimidating to novices.
The Sony TV becomes more well-rounded with the Google TV platform. App selection is generous, and navigation is snappier than on competing operating systems. The display also delivers rich, dynamic audio, even without an accompanying soundbar.
A main rival to this 4K mini LED TV is the Hisense U8, which better minimizes reflections. On the other hand, the Sony Bravia 7 boasts superior upscaling of older content and more precise images.
For $1998 at Amazon, the 85-inch version of the Bravia 7 may be the most desired deal. Both Amazon and Best Buy also have discounts in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch sizes.
