Sony is finally bringing the much-awaited Android TV 14 update to Bravia TVs. The new software, which brings enhancements like improved performance on low-RAM devices, new power modes, and picture-in-picture mode, is initially being rolled out to older models, specifically those equipped with Realtek chipsets.
Reddit user Independent_Zone6816 reports receiving the Android 14 update last week on their Bravia X75L running Android TV 11. Along with Android 14, the new update also bumps the security patch level to June 2025. Many of these TVs were stuck on Android 11 or Android 10, so it’s good to see they’re finally getting some attention. Interestingly, Sony is skipping Android 12 and bumping these models straight to Android 14—worth noting that Android TV 13 was a developer-only release.
The new update is rolling out in a phased manner—you should receive a notification when it finally reaches your unit. You can also check for the update manually by heading to Settings > System > About > System software update. Exact steps and options differ for some models, so be sure to refer to Sony's support page.
Sony’s 2025 TV lineup (Bravia 3 curr. $548) is still on Android 12, but with the latest update now rolling out to the older models, it’s only a matter of time before the premium models get a taste of the newest software.
While Sony markets its TVs as using Google TV, the underlying operating system is still Android—Google TV actually refers to the interface that runs on top of Android TV.
