We reported previously that consumers might be reconsidering investing in GPUs with 8GB VRAM at least in the German market. As it turns out, GPU sales on MindFactory are experiencing a significant slow down overall. According to the latest analysis from 3DCenter based on data collected by TechEpiphany, GPU sales on MindFactory have recorded a 4th consecutive weekly drop with only 2,775 units selling in the 19th week of 2023. This is a 9% drop compared to the 18th week and a massive 38.4% decline vs the 15th week of the ongoing year.
The sales were dominated by AMD boards with a 52.6% share in the total volume while NVIDIA GeForce cards enjoyed a 46.7% slice of the pie. Intel Arc GPUs accounted for a measly 0.7%. Interestingly, the Average Selling Price (ASP) of AMD Radeon cards was €557, a significant €257 less than the NVIDIA GPUs which commanded an ASP of €814. Intel Arc GPUs only came in at €219 which is understandable, since Team Blue only has mid-range boards on the market.
However, despite selling more cards than Team Green, Team Red lagged behind in total revenue with a 43.5% share whereas NVIDIA occupied a 56.3% portion. This makes sense since the ASP of GeForce boards is considerably higher than AMD Radeon GPUs.
Finally, 3DCenter posits that the plummeting GPU sales could be the result of consumers waiting for the impending affordable GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA. Furthermore, a part of the sales slump could also be attributed to early RDNA 3 and RTX 40 adopters no longer needing any cards. So, GPU sales may pick up again following the launch of the RTX 4060 Ti and the RX 7600 boards that are expected to break cover this month.
