GPD has launched the GPD G1, an eGPU that it has introduced alongside the Win Max 2 2023. First teased in March, the GPD G1 features the Radeon RX 7600M XT, an RDNA 3-based GPU with 32 MB Infinity Cache, 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and 32 Compute Units. According to GPD, the G1 measures 225 x 111 x 29.8 mm, supposedly making it the world's smallest eGPU. As the image below shows, the GPD G1 contains the following ports:
- 2x DisplayPort 1.4a
- 1x HDMI 2.1
- 1x OcuLink (SFF-8612)
- 1x Power switch
- 1x SD 4.0 card reader
- 3x USB 3.2 Type-A
- 1x USB 4
Please note that the eGPU's USB Type-A ports and SD card reader will not work when it is connected via OcuLink. Still, OcuLink is capable of delivering 63 Gbps via PCIe 4.0 x4 or PCIe 3.0 x4. For reference, the GPD G1 has a 120 W TGP but features a built-in 240 W GaN PSU. As such, the unit relies on a small active cooling solution, which contributes to its 0.92 kg weight.
Currently, the GPD G1 is only orderable with the Win Max 2 2023. While it remains to be seen whether GPD will offer the eGPU separately, it costs roughly US$642 when ordering the Win Max 2 2023. Please see our corresponding article for more details about the Win Max 2 2023 and how it differs from the original Win Max 2.
Update - May 12
GPD has now clarified that it intends to offer the G1 directly through another crowdfunding campaign. The company has not provided any other details yet though, such as dates or pricing.
