GPD Win Max 2 2023 launches with AMD Phoenix APU and other upgrades
GPD has started selling the Win Max 2 2023 through Indiegogo, roughly a week after The Phawx demonstrated the device's capabilities on his YouTube channel. To recap, the Win Max 2 2023 is a Zen 4 and RDNA 3 refresh of the Win Max 2. Additionally, GPD has added LPDDR5x-7500 RAM and an OcuLink port for connecting the device a GPD G1 eGPU. Please see our dedicated GPD G1 article for more information.
Previously, GPD stated that it would only offer the Win Max 2 2023 with a Ryzen 7 7840U at launch, with Ryzen 5 7640U models following later. However, the company has brought both to Indiegogo, starting at US$799 with a Ryzen 5 7640U, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Alternatively, the Win Max 2 2023 can be configured with 32 GB or 64 GB of RAM, which GPD ties to the Ryzen 7 7840U and a 2 TB SSD for US$1,049 and US$1,199, respectively.

For context, the Ryzen 5 7640U has 6 Zen 4 CPU cores clocked between 3.5 GHz and 4.9 GHz, 12 threads and a 15 W TDP. Also, the APU features the Radeon 760M, which has 8 Compute Units (CUs), equivalent to 512 shaders, and a 2.8 GHz boost clock speed. In comparison, the Ryzen 7 7840U adds 2 more CPU cores, lower base and higher boost CPU clock speeds and an extra 4 threads, along with more L1 and L2 caches. Moreover, AMD integrates a more powerful iGPU by way of the Radeon 780M, which has 12 CUs.
GPD hopes to start shipping the Win Max 2 2023 in August 2023, including those ordered with its G1 eGPU. Currently, the GPD G1 eGPU is available as a US$642/US$643 surcharge, depending on the Win Max 2 2023 configuration chosen. Please see our Win Max 2 review for more details; the 2023 model features the same display, keyboard, controller buttons and overall design as its predecessor.
