Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti rumoured to arrive with two VRAM configurations
Multiple reports up to this point have confirmed Nvidia's intent to launch its next mid-range offering, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, in May 2023. It comes a month after its elder sibling, the GeForce RTX 4070, hit shelves. Retailer listings and leaked packaging confirmed it would pack 8 GB of VRAM. However, Twitter leaker MEGAsizeGPU says Nvidia has another variant in the works with double (16 GB) the memory.
Kopire7kimi chimes in, stating the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB's codename: PG190-SKU363. However, one may have to wait until July to get their hands on one. In classic industry fashion, the SKU will have its paper launch later this month (May 2023), with sales commencing two months later. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB variant, on the other hand, will be available for purchase shortly after its annoucement.
Specs-wise, both GeForce RTX 4060 Ti variants are rumoured to be identical with an AD106-350 GPU, 4,352 CUDA cores and a TGP of ~160 Watts. MEGAsizeAPU adds the GeForce RTX 4060 will also be announced alongside its Ti variant in May and go on sale in July. The final piece of the Ampere desktop puzzle, the GeForce RTX 4050, has been delayed.
While one can (rightly) argue that the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB variant exists solely to make the 16 GB version look more attractive, the former's existence is somewhat justified if priced at around US$400. A mid-range (hopefully) US$500 SKU with 16 GB of memory will come as a shot in the arm for gamers due to skyrocketing VRAM requirements. It also gives Nvidia a talking point against AMD's recent marketing blitz, which heavily emphasized RDNA 2 and RDNA 3's video memory.
