Sometimes you don't want to play a battle royale or MOBA game and instead want to feel like you're part of an expansive world brimming with colour and adventure. Well, action adventure games tend to deliver that in spades. This May, some of Steam's best action adventure game releases in recent years are on sale.

1. Stray - 20% off

Annapurna Interactive's Stray turned out to be one of 2022's biggest adventure video game hits thanks to its sublime cyberpunk visuals and unorthodox POV character. Stray tells the story of a ginger cat who was separated from his family and has to find his way back home.

Along the way, you'll have to navigate the overgrown neon cityscape while you evade detection, solve environmental puzzles, and help the local robot population with their daily struggles. Some of Stray's side quests even involve typical cat activities, like nuzzling strangers, destroying furniture, and pushing stuff off of counter tops.

Stray is an adventure game that puts the story first throughout its refreshingly-short ~5-hour playtime, and it's on sale on Steam for US$23.99 until May 18

2. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 - 85% off

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 follows the heroes of the Dragon Ball universe as they hop through time to visit some of the most impactful moments of the anime's story in an attempt to preserve the timeline.

Aside from the solid 3D fighting and character customisation mechanics, Xenoverse 2 features strong adventure and RPG gameplay elements, making it a fun, rewarding game to get into. To sweeten the pot, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 features split-screen and online PvP modes as well as online co-op gameplay.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is just US$7.49 on Steam sale until May 18.

3. Dead Cells - 40% off

Dead Cells is a 2D souls-like metroidvania game that immediately found popularity when it launched back in 2018. Along with a strong roguelike gameplay loop that forces you to explore the meandering halls of the castle, Dead Cells features rewarding, fast-paced combat, with a large variety of weapons and fulfilling character progression mechanics.

Dead Cells is also still receiving plenty of updates and expansions to keep players busy even after they finish the main story.

Dead Cells is US$14.99 on Steam sale until May 20.
