Anbernic RG353PS: Cheap gaming handheld launches as budget RG353P alternative
Anbernic has introduced the RG353PS, another take on its RG353 platform. To recap, the company introduced the RG353P in June 2022, which it followed up a few months later with the RG353V. Subsequently, Anbernic released the RG353M with a squarer design. In comparison, the RG353PS bears a closer resemblance to the RG353P but with a tweaked design.
As such, the RG353PS relies on the Rockchip RK3566, a low-powered chipset with four ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores running at 1.8 GHz and a Mali-G52 MP2 GPU. The RG353PS features 1 GB of LPDDR4X RAM though, half what Anbernic includes in the RG353P. Similarly, the RG353PS lacks built-in storage or Android support. Instead, the gaming handheld has two MicroSD card slots, one for installing games and the other for running its Linux-based operating system.
The 3.5-inch IPS display running at 640 x 480 pixels remains though, as does a 3,500 mAh battery that Anbernic rates for up to 6 hours of gameplay. Likewise, the RG353PS has an HDMI port for connecting it to an external display and a Wi-Fi chip for multiplayer gameplay. Anbernic will start selling the RG353PS later today, starting at US$86.99. Prices will eventually rise to US$94.99, although it is unclear when. Anbernic will offer the RG353PS in three colourways at launch; please see the company's website for more details.
