JBL has unveiled Wi-Fi-capable versions of its Charge 5 and Boombox 3 portable speakers. The improved connectivity reduces interruptions and enables you to wirelessly stream content from a mobile device via Apple AirPlay or Chromecast. The models also support HD audio with 24bit/96kHz playback over Wi-Fi.

JBL has revealed the JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi and JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi portable speakers for Europe. The new models add Wi-Fi capabilities to the existing devices for reduced interruptions. For example, thanks to the extended range, you can move your connected device further away from the speaker without causing the music to stop. Plus, the gadgets now support Apple AirPlay, Alexa MRM and Google Chromecast thanks to the Wi-Fi connectivity.

The new Boombox 3 and Charge 5 speakers also support Bluetooth 5.3, meaning you can still wirelessly connect your phone outdoors. Other features of the JBL gadgets include self-tuning, where the device detects a new environment and automatically optimizes the sound. The new models support HD audio with 24bit/96kHz playback over Wi-Fi. The JBL Boombox 3 has five speakers; a subwoofer, two mid-range drivers and two tweeters. Plus, the device supports Dolby Atmos for a more engaging audio experience.

The Charge 5 has a long excursion driver, a tweeter, and two passive bass radiators. The Charge 5 can last up to 20 hours on a single charge, while the Boombox 3 provides up to 24 hours of playback time. The speakers have a black casing with gold-colored accents. The JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi and Boombox 3 Wi-Fi will launch mid-May, retailing for £229.99 or  €249 and £549.99 or €599, respectively.
