Resident Evil Veronica hits 2 million wishlist milestone

Capcom has officially detailed its next major survival horror project, Resident Evil Veronica, a full ground-up remake of the 2000 Sega Dreamcast classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Built using Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, the game is scheduled for a 2027 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The remake revisits Claire Redfield three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, as she searches for her brother, Chris, in Paris, leading to her capture and imprisonment on Umbrella's remote Rockfort Island during a viral outbreak.
Core gameplay and production leadership
Production is led by director Yasuhiro Anpo and associate director Kazunori Kadoi, the same pairing behind the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, with Yoshiaki Hirabayashi returning as producer.
Hirabayashi has confirmed the game uses a locked, over-the-shoulder third-person camera. Despite the reveal trailer's brief first-person opening, there is no first-person mode toggle. Because the story takes place only three months after Resident Evil 2, Claire's combat reflects her grounded survival experience rather than the advanced tactical skillset of a trained government agent, with Hirabayashi pointing to the Resident Evil 2 remake's resource-management loop as a reference point.
Wishlist milestone and post-launch roadmap
Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil: Veronica surpassed 2 million Wishlists across digital storefronts roughly 60 days after its reveal, with the first million arriving in the first week.
Hirabayashi has also described a new narrative "throughline" connecting the remake's restructured story directly to Resident Evil Requiem, addressing continuity gaps that have existed since the original's 2000 release.
Separately, insider Dusk Golem has claimed Capcom is planning a lengthy, single-player story expansion for the title, targeted for 2028, alongside a similar expansion for Resident Evil Requiem in late 2027. Capcom has not confirmed this, and it should be treated as an unverified report for now rather than an announced roadmap item, though it would align with the publisher's recent shift toward substantial post-launch DLC for core remakes over standalone spin-off titles.
