Rusty Lake announces Servant of the Lake releases August 13 on iOS, Android, and Steam. Uncover Vanderboom secrets in this new point-and-click adventure.

Independent developer and publisher Rusty Lake has confirmed that its upcoming point-and-click narrative adventure, Servant of the Lake, will officially launch on August 13, 2026, across iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. The premium title is the latest standalone entry in the studio's long-running surreal puzzle series, returning players to the infamous Vanderboom estate to explore the family's history from a new perspective. The game was originally planned for a spring 2026 release, but Rusty Lake pushed the launch back after the project's scope, in both story and puzzles, nearly doubled during development.

Housekeeping tasks turn unsettling at the Vanderboom estate

Rather than stepping into the shoes of an investigator or a trapped victim, players take on the role of a newly hired servant arriving at the Vanderboom house during the era of Aldous and William Vanderboom, decades before the events of Rusty Lake: Roots. The narrative begins with routine domestic duties, including preparing the mansion for arriving weekend guests, ordering supplies, and tending to the grounds, before escalating into strange assignments that assist the family with its alchemical experiments. Gameplay maintains the studio's familiar inventory-based puzzle logic, requiring players to inspect rooms, combine unusual items, and fulfil escalating requests from the household's inhabitants.

Demo availability and building on past games

Servant of the Lake builds on the universe established in previous releases such as the Cube Escape series, The Past Within, and Underground Blossom. The game features an original atmospheric soundtrack composed by long-time series collaborator Victor Butzelaar, alongside sound design by Driftwood Audio, the studio's regular audio partner since The Past Within. Ahead of launch, players can try a free teaser demo titled Servant of the Lake Lite on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, featuring a 15-30-minute prologue covering the carriage's arrival and initial estate assignments. A separate demo is also available on Steam. Pre-orders and Steam wishlists are open now ahead of the August 13 rollout, with the full mobile release priced at $4.99.
