Meta's Muse Code AI agent aims to simplify development across large codebases

Meta has launched Muse Code, a new AI-powered coding system aimed at streamlining the process of coding large and challenging software projects for developers. The product, which has now been released in beta, is powered by Muse Spark 1.2, the latest version of Meta's AI coding and agent-based tool, as the company seeks to consolidate its position in the rapidly growing AI developer tool market.
Unlike conventional AI coding tools that mainly provide code snippets or answer programming questions, Muse Code is designed to perform complete end-to-end software development tasks. The AI agency has the capability to learn large software repositories, modify and write code, debug, run the tests, and simultaneously coordinate many background agencies to solve complicated development processes. According to Meta, these parallel agencies exist in separate environments where they can work on different tasks without interference.
WIth event history, the new AI tool has an important feature capable of recording entire actions that happened during the work. Consequently, it allows Muse Code to continue a long-process, multi-stage task without having to re-do it from scratch in case of a failure.
Meta is now entering into direct competition with AI coding applications such as the OpenAI’s Codex and Claude Code of Anthropic. Meta has not adopted the standard subscription-based model. Rather, it has chosen a pay-as-you-use approach to charge the developers, depending upon the usage of tokens. The standard pricing is $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens.
Muse Code is another tool of Meta that is based on its earlier Muse Spark releases. The idea behind developing this application is reflected in Meta’s plan to expand the AI ecosystem via the introduction of the applications targeted at developers and corporate clients. Growing demand for AI programming has allowed Meta to provide the developers with a tool that can help in managing the coding projects effectively.
