Realme 240W next-gen charging for smartphones teased with live testing image

Realme's GT Neo 5 has yet to launch; however, a marquee spec for the future Android smartphone is already known: it will be the first to have compatibility with the brand's latest charger, which is rated for a new record-beating rate of 240 watts (W).

Now, Realme's vice-president Xu Qi Chase has provided the first live official leak for this upcoming technological breakthrough on Weibo.

It consists of the 240W accessory in question apparently plugged into its inaugural companion smartphone (off camera) via a ChargerLAB Power-Z KM003C multimeter that purports to detect the protocol (e.g Qualcomm QuickCharge) being employed to deliver the voltage (V) and amperage (A) displayed.

Realme asserts that its new power brick is capable of up to 20V/10A; however, as if to lend a sense of realism to the new teaser, it is shown to achieve ~18.6V, for a final wattage of ~224W.

Regardless, that still beats Xiaomi's 210W top rate, especially in its own independent testing. In addition, it looks somewhat as compact (if a little tall) as the brand claims it to be in its inaugural real-life photo.

Therefore, the Neo 5 stands a good chance of truly being the world's fastest-charging smartphone on its launch.

Finally, the exec's photo explains why no fancy new branding for the power brick in question was unveiled at its launch: it is a 240W SuperVOOC product, meaning it was in fact developed by BBK Electronics sister brand OPPO, which seems happy to let Realme use it first nonetheless.
