Realme has officially revealed that the GT Neo 5 will be its first ever Android smartphone to launch with market-ready 240 watt (W) charging. The unprecedented spec is achieved with a heavily optimized arsenal of cutting-edge battery, charger and power brick technology touted to focus on stability and safety as well as lightning-fast power delivery.

Smartphone charging technology moves like lightning these days. Retail devices that beat even iQOO's briefly-held record of 200W have been a thing since late 2022 - however, Realme has now announced that it has beaten them all as it is first to launch a commercial-grade 240W system.

It also asserts that, despite being potentially alarming in its unprecedented turn of speed, it will be the most reliable and long-lasting example of 200W+ charging on the market. To this end, the OEM has detailed its painstakingly safety-conscious path through development.

This just starts with the application of "PS3 fireproofing" from end to end, with 13 temperature sensors throughout the charging system for "real-time security". The battery is also augmented with graphene for extra phase-change-based cooling

Realme also insists that the new 240W tech also aims for "quality" as it is rated to withstand ~1,600 cycles and has been put through all the extreme testing the OEM could think of, including back-to-back 85°C exposure tests. However, all of that would be pointless without the triple-figure wattage to match.

Realme asserts that its achievement starts even at the USB type-C port, specially crafted using a "double-layer platinum electrophoresis" technique to eliminate any chance of impairment due to variables such as impedance, and also avoids the port's corrosion or deterioration from exposure to its environment, which include human hand oils or sweat, of course.

The potentially world-beating charge actually starts with the 240W power brick, of course, which is based on "dual GaN" technology to pack a power density of 2.34W per cubic centimeter (the highest in the industry, according to Realme) into what looks like a surprisingly "Mini" new accessory.

Its new spec also depends on its matching and highly custom cable, integrating "industry-leading" ultra-high-gauge 21AWG copper wire. It is rated to deliver 12A of current to the battery, which converts it into 3 up-to-100W 'lines' for a 10V/24A end result.

Then again, Realme has yet to specify if the new cable and charger comes in the box with each GT Neo 5. This inaugural "240W flagship" is now set to launch with its breakthrough feature in February 2023.
