PS6 „sounds like handheld“: Fans can live with that – under certain conditions

Over the past few weeks, there has been growing speculation that Sony may try to move gaming beyond the living room with the sixth generation of PlayStation. What remains unclear is exactly what role a handheld would play. One possibility is a Switch-style hybrid that works both on the go and when connected to a TV. Another is a dual-device strategy featuring a portable system alongside a separate, more powerful home console. The Verge has even suggested a scenario in which the handheld becomes the primary PS6, while the traditional console is positioned as a more expensive premium model.
Fans have a few conditions
In a recent Reddit thread, the idea of a PlayStation handheld has generally been met with enthusiasm. What many users reject, however, is the possibility of it becoming the primary PlayStation device while Sony relegates the traditional console to an expensive premium option. Instead, many commenters would prefer two clearly distinct products: a PS6 handheld for gaming on the go and a powerful home console for the living room.
Another key requirement for the community is a shared game library, allowing games purchased for the home console to run on the handheld with adjusted graphics settings. Price is another major concern. Many users doubt that Sony can deliver a handheld with performance close to the PS5 at an affordable price. Some even speculate that a PlayStation handheld capable of running games natively – unlike the PlayStation Portal (currently available on Amazon for $277) – could cost more than $800.
For many fans, a PS6 handheld would only be appealing if both devices remain reasonably priced and the home console does not become a luxury product. For now, however, all of this remains speculation. Only time will tell what Sony ultimately has planned.
