Mangmi Air Y shows off its emulation capabilities in new video

Ahead of the release of the Air Y series, Mangmi has released a video showing the Air Y vertical handheld in use. The video shows the handheld emulating a handful of video games for different retro consoles.

The Mangmi Air Y is the less-powerful model of the Air Y series. While it has the same 4.2-inch IPS display as the Air Y Pro, it is powered by the weaker Snapdragon 662 processor, which is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. It also has only one thumbstick, whereas the pro model has two.

Nevertheless, the gameplay test video shows it is capable of emulating games made for consoles such as the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation One, and SEGA Dreamcast.

In the video, which is over four minutes long, the Mangmi Air Y is shown running the PSP title God of War: Ghost of Sparta. It also has no issues running Tomb Raider and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation One. The video also shows gameplay of the Dreamcast version of the popular SEGA game, Crazy Taxi.

Surprisingly, the video doesn't show it running any Android video game nor does it show it being used for streaming games from a PC or from a streaming service. These are features available on the Mangmi Air X, which has the same processor but 4GB of RAM.

Mangmi hasn't revealed when the Air Y will be released and how much it will cost. However, we expect it to be no more expensive than the Air X, which costs $99.99 on the manufacturer's website, but is sold for $145.99 on Amazon.
