Anbernic has unveiled a retro handheld globally. Featuring a slimmer top bezel than the RG34XX SP, the RG SP is also thinner than past Game Boy Advance SP lookalikes. Anbernic claims to have improved other areas for the release of the RG SP too.

Anbernic has returned with another new retro handheld. To recap, the company presented the RG55G1 at the end of June. Currently, Anbernic has not indicated when this Nintendo Switch Lite lookalike will be available, nor how much it will cost.

Nonetheless, it has pressed ahead with a fresh take on the Game Boy Advance SP. For context, Anbernic initially launched the RG35XX SP in May 2024 for under $60. A year later, it presented the similar RG34XX SP, which it silently downgraded in January 2026 before refreshing it in May with its first metallic finish (curr. $89 on Amazon).

The RG SP will be available in multiple colours.

Now, the company has added to these pair with the RG SP. Unusually, Anbernic has already confirmed several hardware specifications. For instance, the Allwinner H700 returns, which has been a mainstay of Linux-based Anbernic handhelds for years. Additionally, a 3,300 mAh battery returns, albeit apparently with support for up to 7.5 W charging.
In other words, the RG SP will perform about as well as the RG34XX SP and without about the same battery life.

However, Anbernic claims to have included new buttons for improved tactility. Also, it has dropped the dual joysticks in favour of the layout used on the older RG35XX SP. The newer clamshell handheld is said to contain a 25% thinner top bezel though, the size of which was a shortcoming of the RG34XX SP. Moreover, the RG SP is 10% thinner than its effective predecessor. Pricing and availability remain unknown for now.
