Anbernic releases updated retro gaming handheld with 'premium upgrade'

Anbernic is due to release the RG Rotate in a few days. In the meantime, the company has decided to refresh one of its existing compact retro handhelds. Specifically, Anbernic has returned to the RG34XX SP, a 3.4-inch handheld that it originally launched in May 2025 with Indigo, Yellow, Grey and Black colours (curr. $84 on Amazon).
Now, it has updated the RG34XX SP with a deep Blue hue. Already available to purchase, the new Metallic Blue finish unfortunately features 1 GB of RAM, a 1 GB RAM downgrade that Anbernic introduced in January 2026. Allegedly, this new release is more than just a visual refresh. On YouTube, the company adds that Metallic Blue adds a 'premium upgrade' by way of a metallic coating.
Apparently, this new version improves tactility too while also being more eye-catching than the RG34XX SP's existing matte plastic finishes. The Metallic Blue release still combines a 480p display and an Allwinner H700 chipset with a 3,300 mAh battery, though. The updated RG34XX SP can be ordered from Anbernic's website for $67.99 with a 64 GB microSD card or for $97.99 and $117.99 with 128 GB and 256 GB secondary microSD cards.
